What CommitSEO actually checks
Every audit runs the same 61 deterministic checks across 7 dimensions against your site - technical foundations, structured data, content architecture, Core Web Vitals, sitemap hygiene, local SEO, and AI visibility. No proprietary black-box score. Every finding names the exact rule that fired and the exact value it found.
Honest framing: most of what follows is deterministic code, not AI guessing - the same check always fires the same way on the same page. We only bring in a language model where judgment is genuinely required (rewriting a title, drafting a meta description, filling in structured data) - and even then, every write is verified by re-fetching the live page afterward, and every change ships with its own undo.
The 7 dimensions
Grouped by what they protect - from "can search engines read this page at all" to "does anyone ask ChatGPT about you."
01
Technical foundations
The baseline every search engine checks before anything else - if this layer is broken, nothing downstream matters.
- Title tag present and within the length search results actually display
- Placeholder page titles ("Home - Company") instead of a real description of the page
- Broken meta descriptions (a stray value such as "100%") that Google may display
- Meta description present, right length, shown with its real current text
- Exactly one clear H1 - not missing, not duplicated
- Skipped heading levels (H1 straight to H3) that confuse how content gets chunked by readers and AI alike
- Canonical URL present, self-referencing, not pointing cross-domain or to a dead page
- Pages marked noindex that still receive real search clicks (a contradiction worth catching)
- Mixed HTTP/HTTPS links, multi-hop redirect chains, missing compression
- Accessibility score from Lighthouse - contrast, form labels, button and link names
- Images, scripts and styles loaded over plain HTTP on an HTTPS page - browsers block or warn about them
- Missing server security headers (HSTS, Content-Security-Policy and others) - reported once for the whole site
- Duplicate titles and meta descriptions across the site

02
Structured data & social sharing
What machines - search engines and AI assistants alike - read to understand what a page actually is, beyond the visible text.
- JSON-LD present on the page at all
- Each schema type checked against Google's actual required fields (Product, Article, LocalBusiness, FAQPage, Review, and 7 more)
- Site-wide structured data coverage - what % of pages carry any schema, and which types
- Open Graph tags present (title, description, image)
- Open Graph content that exists but looks broken - a stray value leaked from a template instead of real copy

03
Content quality & site architecture
Whether the right pages exist, are reachable, and aren't quietly competing against each other.
- Images missing alt text
- Thin pages that still attract real search traffic
- Pages whose title doesn't match what they're actually ranking for
- An existing page ranking in the top 20 for a real query, worth strengthening rather than replacing
- Real search demand with no page that properly serves it at all - a candidate for a brand-new post
- Pages ranking with real demand but underperforming the click-through rate expected at that position
- Orphan pages nothing on the site links to internally
- Pages buried five or more clicks deep from the homepage
- About and contact pages present - a basic sign that a real, reachable business stands behind the site
- Organization structured data linked to official profiles (sameAs), so search engines and AI recognise the same entity
- Articles with no sign of being updated for over two years
- Broken internal links
- Keyword cannibalization - caught two ways: from real Search Console click data, and from content similarity alone, before it even shows up in rankings
- Related pages that should link to each other but don't yet
- Hreflang tags validated on sites with more than one language version
- Content Effort Score - lists, tables, video, images, bold terms, heading structure, and no walls of unbroken text
- Pages losing real search clicks over time - a trend signal, not just a snapshot
- Pages dropping in average search position week-over-week - caught fast, not after months
- Internal links using generic anchor text ("click here", "read more") instead of descriptive copy
- Internal links accidentally marked nofollow, wasting your own site's link equity

04
Performance (Core Web Vitals)
Google's own ranking signals for how a page actually feels to load and use, not just whether it eventually renders.
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) - how long the main content takes to appear
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) - whether elements jump around while loading
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP) - how fast the page responds to clicks
- Images missing explicit width/height - a direct, fixable root cause of layout shift

05
Sitemap & indexing hygiene
Whether Google's map of your site actually matches what's real - a mismatch here silently caps everything above it.
- Pages with real traffic missing from the sitemap entirely
- Sitemap entries missing a last-modified date
- Pages that get traffic but Google isn't actually indexing
- Sitemap entries pointing to a 404
- Sitemap entries pointing to a noindex page

06
Local SEO (NAP consistency)
For any business with a physical presence, the one signal Google cross-checks hardest against your Google Business Profile.
- Name, address, and phone number present in structured data at all
- NAP details consistent across every page of the same business - a mismatch is a trust signal Google weighs directly
2 checks
07
AI visibility (GEO/AEO)
A newer, separate question from the six above: when someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity a question your business should answer, do you ever come up?
- Whether robots.txt is silently blocking AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot) from reading the site at all
- Whether the model mentions your brand or site at all for a relevant prompt
- Whether it cites your domain directly, not just a competitor's
- Tracked across multiple AI providers over time, not a single one-off check
1 check + ongoing tracking per prompt
We don't just score it - we fix it
Most audit tools stop at a report. CommitSEO's whole reason to exist is the next step: it writes the fix to your live site, confirms it actually went through by re-fetching the page, and keeps a full history so any single change can be undone in one click - even months later.
01
Audit finds the issue, with the exact value that's wrong
02
A proposal shows the before/after, ready for your approval
03
Applied to your site, then verified by fetching the live URL
04
Kept or reverted: a change that doesn't show up live is undone automatically, and one that hurts traffic or errors is flagged for you to undo
See it run on your own site
